Kiambu County Deputy Registrar of Persons, Denis Mwanza, has revealed that they have been asking persons who have not collected their cards to do so immediately before the government’s directive to destroy them is implemented.

The directive is supposed to start in a month’s time.

Speaking on Wednesday from his Thika Town office, Mwanza said that according to the information he has, over 1,000 identity cards which are lying unpicked belong to people who cannot be traced and are not residents in the county.

He noted that the risk of having uncollected ID’s in the registries is that they can fall into the wrong hands and be used in committing crimes.

According to the registrar, Central region has more than 41,721 identity cards lying uncollected in various registries and there is need to sensitise those who have not picked them cards to do so immediately.

He called on anyone who has not picked and is a resident of the Kiambu County to do so immediately.
