The exercise which commenced early in the morning at Thika children's office was aimed at helping the elderly, orphans and vulnerable children in the area.

Addressing residents who had come to register, Thika district children’s officer, Rebecca Kariuki, together with the social development department said that the funds will only benefit orphans, vulnerable children and elders who were registered before and used to collect the cash through the post office.

“The exercise will be quiet different since we are going to take finger prints to avoid personification. The beneficiaries will be receiving Sh12,000 per month,” she said.

She added, “The fund will help to improve their livelihood hence helping them to live better lives.”

The programme is funded by the office of the president and is meant to reduce poverty levels in the country.
