Chief roads Engineer Geoffrey Toitok on Thursday led his team in demarcating buildings, which are reportedly within the area to be occupied by the highway that will be a major link to Kericho- Kisii highway.

According to him, surveyors had already given the affected prior notice of vacation as early as 2013, when the project commenced.

“We will not give them further extension. We have given them enough time and that is why we have to demolish buildings belonging to owners who have not complied. I think we are still within the law,” said Toitok.

He said the process will officially begin next week, and urged those still willing to rescue their properties to act in speed and save the situation.

“It does not mean that we are starting today. I have given them till Monday next week to ensure they have removed anything that is necessary for them,” he added.

However, the move was not received well with residents, as majority of them condemned the action blaming the government of insincerity in handling the matter.

“As you can see, they have even demarcated buildings which are a couple of meters away from the road. This is improper.  Some of us were not notified earlier as they have claimed. We have genuine land maps that show we are not within the parameters of the road,” said Simon Mosigisi.
