The stalemate has been attributed to incomplete academic transcripts due to non-compliance from lecturers to submit exam results in time.

On Thursday, the affected students pitched tent in the university compound, demanding answers to what they called “incompetence and ignorance” from the institution, saying it is the obligation of the institution to ensure that they graduate.

“I wonder why we have missing marks in our transcripts yet we do not owe the school even a cent,” said Kelvin Mwiruri, an affected student.

“They used to compel us to pay fee and now they are bringing another unacceptable issue. This is violation of our rights and they have to take responsibility.”

They accused the institution of opaqueness in service delivery, saying the management failed to pay some lecturers who have since held their marks.

“I am sure they (management) haven’t paid some lecturers hence the limbo. We give the management up to next week to solve the crisis before we take a legal step,” said Naomi Moraa.

Efforts to reach vice chancellor Prof John Akama bore no fruit as reports indicated that he was in Nairobi for official duties. However, academic affairs registrar Prof Philip Owino assured them of an expeditious solution to the menace.

“We have heard you and my office will ensure that you are in the list of graduates since it is your rights. The allegations that the university owes some tutors are just fictitious hence inaccurate. Come next week all will be fine,” the long-serving don said.

The second annual graduation ceremony is scheduled for December 19, where more than 2000 students are expected to graduate.
