Hundreds of Elburgon residents turned up for a free medical camp organised by US based non-governmental organisations AMKENY-KACOINC, in partnership with Egerton and St Paul’s Universities at Deliverance Church, Nakuru County.

The two days camp which started on Tuesday recorded one thousand and twenty members of public who received medical services ranging from eyesight, dental, cancer screening and other ailments for free.

Speaking during the opening of the camp, Assistant County Commissioner Josephine Kihara thanked the partners for remembering the residents and giving back to the community.

"On behalf of the community, I sincerely thank you all for this generous deed. I feel happy when I see the young and elderly receive free medical services,’’ she said.

The local Deliverance Church witnessed a beehive of activities as the US based doctors and their counterpart,s students of Egerton University, worked jointly to serve the ever increasing crowds.

Dr Lucy Kibe, the coordinator of the medical camp & founder of AMKENY, took time to explain that Elburgon had the greatest need for medical services.

On her part, she explained that AMKENY was just a forum she created together with her medical school classmates at the US.

‘’We felt the urge to give back to our communities back here in Kenya, we looked for well-wishers at the US who donated medicines and other equipment that we are able to use here. I wish to thank Mr Charles Mutunga, an engineer born in here in Kenya now based at USA and the founder of KACOINC for the support he has accorded the US team of doctors.,’’said Dr Kibe.

Lucy went further to thank the other partners and the local residents for turning up for the medical checkup and treatment.

On behalf of the residents, area Chief Kamau Mungai said the free services came at the right time since majority of the elderly residing in the nearby Kasarani settlements could not walk long distances to seek medical attention.
