Police in Nakuru have launched a massive investigation to arrest a group of people involved in child abduction and hijackings, following increased reports in various parts of the town.
While talking to journalists in his office during a press briefing on Friday morning, Nakuru police boss Benard Kioko said police had received over five cases of missing children, and those abducted or hijacked from their homes and had launched a major investigation to crack down crooks involved in the absurd crime.
The police boss said that police suspect that the criminals, who are targeting children aged between two and ten years of age could be involved in child trafficking syndicate, but not hijackings for ransom as in normal circumstances.
“These criminals are most likely involved in child trafficking dealings because so far the complainants have not received any calls demanding for ransoms. We have also not heard of any reports of missing children being found dead. We believe that it is a new wave of crime where the crooks are supplying these children to a child trafficking syndicate,” explained the police boss.
According to Kioko, Everlyne Akinyi, aged 4, got lost on Thursday while walking home from a Nursery School in Bangladesh estate.
In another related incident, a woman who had worked for a family in Pipeline estate for barely a month as a house help mysteriously disappeared with Master Geofrey Munene, aged 3 earlier this week.
And in Lanet, Kioko said two children namely Anne Njoki, aged 5, and Joshua Kamau aged 3 were early this week reported missing, after failing to report home after a play out at Ndenge estate.
