Police in Laikipia county have launched a manhunt for a herdsman who allegedly killed a 10-year-old girl after assaulting her sexually.

The body of the girl, name withheld,  was found on Monday morning in a thicket, two days after her parents reported her missing from home in Endana village, Laikipia East sub-county.

The girl was last seen with a 25-year-old herdsman, an employee at a nearby private ranch.

The herdsman is said to be on the ran after the incident.

Laikipia East sub-county police boss James Kithuka said investigations are ongoing to bring arrest the suspect.

"The suspect will be arrested and arraigned in court to face rape and murder charges," Kithuka said.
