A middle-aged man accused of killing his wife after a domestic quarrel was on Thursday sent to jail by the High Court in Nakuru.
Francis Njoroge, a primary school teacher, is accused of killing Anastacia Were, his wife, on June 16, 2011 at Bambam village, Rabai District in Kilifi County.
However, Njoroge was acquitted of murder charges but charged with manslaughter. While sentencing the accused, Justice Maureen Odero rejected the argument placed by Njoroge that the deceased stabbed herself saying she had multiple wounds in her body.
The argument further said the act was not premeditated as he was planning to divorce.
The judge said witnesses had recounted that they went to the house after learning of the fatal incident and found the accused holding a knife.
Justice Odero said that autopsy report indicated that the victim had died of excessive bleeding due to multiple stabs in her body.
He was sentenced to 12 years in jail.
