Dr Matiang’i said he is a happy man after he delivered his promise to President Uhuru Kenyatta that there will be no exam malpractices.

The CS lauded Knec, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and ICT boss Joe Mucheru for their good partnership in curbing exam leakages.

Attempts by some teachers in Mandera County to send answers to candidates via phone were thwarted by security agencies.

“The cases were detected and dealt with appropriately before they could happen,” Matiang’i said after he released KCPE exams on Thursday.

The top candidate, Oduor Victor Odhiambo of Daisy Special School in Kakamega County, got 437 marks.

Kevin Ngatia of Tender Care Academy in Nairobi came second with 436 marks.

Only 5,190 obtained 400 marks and above, compared to 7,560 in 2015.
