Kiambu County governor Ferdinand Waititu has promised that he will be leading crackdown on illicit brewers and drug dealers in person until zero cases of illicit brews and drug abuse are reported in the region.

Waititu said he will engage over 300 reformed alcoholic youths to arrest brewers.

"Reformed youths know every drug den and illicit brew dealers in the region. I will use a thief to catch a thief. I will be going round with police officers and chiefs to arrest drug dealers," he said.

He called on residents making and selling illicit brews to surrender before the law catches up with them.

"Residents engaging in the illegal business are advised to drop the businesses before we catch up with them. The law will not spare anyone whether old or young. We should be all good ambassadors to end illicit liquor and use of drugs such as bhang which is rampant in deep villages" said Waititu.

The governor said local chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials found colluding with illicit brew dealers will be arrested and prosecuted.

"No one is above the law and government representative who will be found colluding with the illicit brew dealer will face the full force of the law,". he noted.

He was speaking at Gatukuyu village within Kiambu County on Tuesday.
