Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has assured county youths of his commitment to curb rising unemployment levels by creating job opportunities.

Speaking on Wednesday when he officiated a youth forum organised by county youths at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Mbugua said his government has put in place strategies meant o curb unemployment.

The governor said the government intends to boost funding for youth and women empowerment programmes in the next financial year.

“My government will remain committed and seek valuable solutions on how to curb joblessness,” he said.

Kinuthia revealed that the county is working with the private sector on proposals that will create jobs.

He observed that lack of jobs is among the major challenges facing young people in Nakuru County.

Mbugua said that with lack of jobs among the youths it will be hard to achieve 100 percent socio-economic development.

The county boss at the same time urged young people to apply for the Uwezo Fund.

He said the fund has the capability of reducing unemployment adding that several youths across the county have already benefited.

“As we seek more strategies to curb unemployment, I want to urge young people to apply for the funds being given by the national government under Uwezo Fund,” he said.

Mbugua also urged Nakuru youths to be active and take part in development activities at the county level.
