Kisii Governor James Ongwae insists that he is committed to delivering his 2013 election pledges even amidst hostility from a section of MPs from the county who have been critical of his administration.
Ongwae has been facing resistance from a section of MPs who accuse him of underdevelopment and nepotism in the execution of his gubernatorial duties.
But speaking on Wednesday during Madaraka Day celebrations at Gusii stadium, Ongwae defended his track record and vowed to fulfill his promises.
“I signed a contract with the people of Kisii and in return, I have to deliver. My government is committed to having the best out of our county and I think we are moving towards the right direction,” Ongwae said.
“Despite the persistent criticism from my friends in the political arena, many of you have remained focused to ensure we improve our social –economic well-being,” he added.
Ongwae highlighted remarkable performance in the health, roads and agriculture sector under his regime and said the county was determined to fully realise the fruits of devolution to his constituents.
“I am committed to seeing all my pledges fulfilled. We have had a milestone both in agriculture, roads and health sectors because we have expanded those sectors and improved accessibility of services to the people," said Ongwae.
"There are yet more we are doing in other sectors and I believe we will be somewhere before elections,” he said.
Mr Ongwae is facing a stiff challenge from former CIC chair Charles Nyachae, Senator Chris Obure and South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya as 2017 elections beckons.
