Kenya Power outgoing CEO Ben Chumo, has said he is leaving the office on his own volition upon reaching retirement age.
The company finance manager Ken Tarus has assumed the position of acting CEO.
A letter dated 12th June 2016 indicated that Chumo requested the board for another term that begins on the 7th of January 2017.
Activist Okiya Omtatah however filed a court application barring Chumo from serving another term. He said that Chumo should have vacated office on 11th July 2016.
Chumo's renewal was stopped by the court on the 24th of November 2016.
Justice Nelson Abuodha ordered Energy cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, not to act on a letter sent to him by the board, seeking to consider Chumo for another term.
“For the record, Ben Chumo retired voluntarily from public service on January 1, 2014. Since then he was employed by Kenya Power on contract, which is due to expire on January 6, 2017,” said KPLC chairman Kenneth Marende.
