Former Cabinet Secretary for devolution Anne Waiguru has said that she owes no one any money, not even the Sh791 million she was linked to during the National Youth Service scandal.
Waiguru made it clear that she did not take any money from NYS, and that some cartels orchestrated just to see her out of office for reasons she did not want to explain until investigations are complete.
She however denied the allegations that she chickened out of the Nairobi gubernatorial race because she was scared.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a coward,” she said.
Waiguru explained that her move was driven by informed consultations and advise as well as weighing her financial status.
According to her, doing campaigns in Nairobi is more expensive compared to Kirinyaga.
She also added that she would participate in door to door campaigns since she does not have much money for mega campaigns.
Questioned about her request for lighter duties during her resignation last year and whether vying for the post of a governor is an easier task, Waiguru said that she is now stronger and ready for the task.
“I resigned due to health issues but I cannot be sick forever. I am now stronger,” explained the former Cabinet Secretary.
