Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has refuted allegations that protesters were killed by police and warned social media users against fanning public violence.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Matiang'i said he was not aware of any deaths.

"I am not aware of anyone who has been killed by live bullets in this country. Those are rumours. People who loot, break into people’s homes, burn buses are not peaceful protesters."

This comes after gunshots were heard for the better part of Friday night after President Uhuru Kenyatta was announced the winner of the 2017 presidential elections.

According to the Star, a girl was also shot dead in Mathare Saturday morning by police who fired sporadic shots.
