The Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakir Shabir has cleared the air concerning his political future, ending prolonged speculations that the legislator was eyeing the Kisumu governor's seat.
The two-time Kisumu East legislator said he is not going for the gubernatorial seat, adding that he does not wish to rise higher than he is.
"No. I will be vying for Kisumu East Constituency seat. If the people of Kisumu East feel like they still need my service, then I will serve them. I do not want to be the king of Kisumu," he said.
He also revealed that the Ford Kenya Party Leader had approached him to give him direct party nomination for Kisumu gubernatorial seat but he declined.
Shabir further said he is an ODM loyalist and respects his party leader Raila Odinga, adding that if the ODM Party Leader approached him for the position of gubernatorial seat, then he would consider it.
"If my boss tells me to work for him as governor, then I will have no option but to obey his request. But for now, I am focused on serving the people of Kisumu East," he said.
