Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he is not interested in becoming the Ukambani region's political kingpin ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Mutua, in a recorded interview with Radio Jambo said on Monday that he is satisfied with his current position as a governor and does not intend to lead the Kamba community anytime soon as an elder.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader who has hinted at vying for the Presidency in 2022 said the Kamba community should feel free to choose someone else to hold the position.
Currently, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the primary pillar in Ukambani going by the popularity of this party in the region that overwhelmingly voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga during the August 8 Presidential election.
"I am not interested in becoming the political kingpin of the Kamba community but I advocate for their unity because that's the best way to negotiate for power," Mutua said during the interview.
Mutua has been touted as the best leader to replace Kalonzo as the leader of the Kamba people.
He, during the August 8 general election defied the Wiper Party wave in the region and successfully defended his seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket.
His party, then, supported President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.
MPs from the Ukambani region who are not in good books with Kalonzo support the declaration of Mutua as the leader of the Kamba community.
