Kisumu East Constituency Member of Parliament Shakeel Shabir has announced that he has no intention to vie for the Kisumu County gubernatorial seat.
Shabir who said that he had a pact with the people of Kisumu East and must deliver promises he made to them after rumours in the county spread that he is preparing to unseat the current governor Jack Ranguma.
“This rumour going round is in bad taste, I have never uttered any word that I am interested in the governor’s seat,” said the MP.
The MP said that such talks were aimed at diverting his attention and that of Ranguma from delivering to the people who elected them. He further urged Ranguma to ignore such talks and instead concentrate on working for the people of Kisumu who gave him the five year mandate to serve them.
“I get sick when I hear such statements. Let Ranguma work for Kisumu people and never ever pay attention to such silly talks,” added Shabir.
Shabir told residents of Kisumu to shun cheap politics and concentrate in development as they wait for 2017 when politics will commence officially.
The legislator said he was focused on his development agenda for the people of Kisumu East and at no point would he entertain such politics.
Shabir an Asian origin is serving his second term as the Kisumu East MP on an ODM ticket. He once served as the Mayor of Kisumu Municipal Council.
