Deputy President William Ruto has broken the silence following accusations by Busia Women Rep Florence Mutua that he interfered with her marriage.
On Thursday, Ms Mutua accused Ruto of discussing her during a meeting with Busia MCAs in a meeting held in Nairobi on August 1.
“During the visit, the DP made my re-election and that of Busia Governor Mr Sospeter Ojaamong the sole subjects of discussion. The DP was categorical that I, Florence Mutua, was a stranger in that County and should not be re-elected."
"I am a proud daughter of Western Kenya by birth and I am a resident of Western by marriage. Ruto must not attempt to define my origins for me and he must get out of my personal birth and marital life," the MP vented.
Ruto through his Communication Secretary David Mugonyi dismissed the accusations, calling Mutua a liar because she was not even present at the meeting.
“She was not in the meeting, so purporting to know what transpired is engaging in rumour-mongering,” said Mugonyi.
Mugonyi further stated that Ruto has the uttermost respect for women and hence Ms Mutua should worry less about what the DP discusses with his visitors.
“The Deputy President is not a voter in Busia. If Mrs Mutua is confident of re-election wherever she vies, she should not be worried about who meets who,” Mugonyi said in a statement.
