Opposition leader Raila Odinga has said he is ready to pay the price for treason.
Raila said he will not back down on his plans to be sworn in on December 12.
The NASA leader was speaking with envoys on Friday - a day after he rebuffed western powers for 'meddling in Kenya's affairs'
"Let them charge me for treason. I am ready," he told envoys.
The envoys were led by US ambassador Robert Godec on Friday.
Godec said Kenya must strive to uphold the constitution at all times.
"I stress the need to uphold the constitution. We urge the government, Opposition and all Kenyans to engage in open, transparent national conversation," he said.
On Thursday attorney general Githu Muigai said Raila's planned swearing-in is high treason whose punishment is death.
