Speaking at the funeral of renowned scholar Professor Joseph Nyasani on Friday, Ongwae said his administration was ready to work with leaders who have the interests of the people at their hearts.

“As Governor, I am always flexible to work with leaders who are ready to see our county achieve progressive development. It’s good to share ideas and implement some for the sake of our people,” Ongwae said.

He challenged leaders to put aside their political and ideological differences and sit down with the county government to deliberate on development matters in the remaining period before elections.

“Sometimes it doesn’t make sense when we criticise everything without giving alternatives. I am ready to sit down with my critics so that we learn from our weaknesses to fix urgent economical challenges the county is facing,” he added.

“It’s important to put aside our political and ideological differences by coming together to work on a common development plan. I am confident that a united county becomes a home of opportunities to our people,” Ongwae said.

The Kisii county boss also called for political tolerance as the country head to 2017 polls and warned politicians against inciting Kenyans against each other.

“I wish to also challenge my fellow politicians to promote peace and tranquility. We all want a peaceful and prosperous country. Ultimately, let’s solve our Kisii problems as a team and not just leave the county to do everything on its own,” he urged.
