Veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga met with renowned Kenyan venture capitalist Mr Chris Kirubi at his palatial home, a visit that the ailing Kirubi described as historic.
The visit came on the heels of the businessman's return to the country from overseas where he has been seeking treatment.
There was generally an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy but it was soon punctuated by brutal truth-telling fired by Mr Kirubi at Raila, threatening the jolly mood.
Kirubi told Raila Odinga that he was seriously toying with the idea of investing in Kisumu but he was scared because of the erratic political atmosphere in the county, a comment that caused Mr Odinga some level of discomfort as captured by the flickering cameras.
Odinga was captured rubbing one of his eyes as Kirubi spewed his brutal truths, a non-verbal cue that communication experts would interpret as a sign of discomfort on Odinga's part.
He told Odinga that if he wanted his people to have jobs, he had a duty and obligation to guarantee peace as political flare-ups in the region would scare off prospective investors.
''I will be one of those who will come and invest in Kisumu by the way but today I can't because I am scared that in five years there will be that destruction cycle. You know investors don't invest in cycles, we want longterm peace...We have to give the confidence to come and invest over there... If you want your people to get jobs, please let us have peace,'' Mr Kirubi said.
The two spoke on Tuesday to the press.
Odinga said that he was committed to bringing about peace in the country following his dramatic handshake with his political arch-nemesis President Uhuru Kenyatta.
