Despite ditching the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2012, Deputy President William Ruto may after all be still a life member, a NASA legislator has claimed.

Last year, Ruto claimed that he had been wooed to Raila Odinga's party by deceased Interior Coordination Minister Joseph Nkaissery in 2007.

"I was persuaded by Nkaissery to join ODM before leaving due to some issues," said Ruto during Nkaiserry's burial.

In fact, Ruto is credited for fighting along with Raila following the bungled 2007 elections before earning himself a place in grand coalition cabinet.

And at a meeting with Gusii MPs on Thursday, the DP is said to have cracked a joke about his former party, when he persuaded the leaders to back his 2022 bid.

"There is nothing wrong to work with DP Ruto. Even Raila is now working with Jubilee and in fact, he told us that his name hasn't been deleted from ODM register," said Sylvanus Osoro, South Mugirango MP.

Prior to his decision to join ODM in 2007, Ruto was Secretary General for KANU, a party that he had been a life member since 1992.

However, ODM Party lawyer Tonny Moturi, when contacted, he said that one ceases to be a member of a political party when he quits for another party.
