Former CIC chairperson Charles Nyachae insists his gubernatorial ambition is intact as he prepares to make an official launch of his bid this weekend at Nyanturago Township.
Mr Nyachae is expected to lock horns with the incumbent Governor James Ongwae who is keen to secure his second term in 2017 polls.
Speaking to the reporter on Tuesday, Nyachae dismissed speculations that he had bowed out of the race after allegedly sensing defeat to Ongwae.
“I am still firm in the Kisii gubernatorial race and confident of winning the polls. I will launch my bid this weekend (on Sunday) at Nyanturago to clear the air following weeks of unwarranted rumors,” he said.
“My bid is unstoppable and those who are airing rumors that I have bowed out of the race are simply agents of impunity. I call upon Kisii residents to throw their support behind me,” added Nyachae.
He questioned the Ongwae-led government’s commitment to fighting corruption and accused it of nepotism and clanism.
“The people of Kisii have a nice choice in me to streamline everything. There is rampant corruption in our county, tribalism and nepotism. These vices will be effectively tackled in my regime,” he said.
Other than Nyachae, Ongwae could also be facing another challenge from incumbent Senator Chris Obure and South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya who are believed to be eyeing the seat.
