In a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday, Wetangula denied claims that he had presented Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with papers indicating that he has intentions to vie for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the next general polls.

“For the past few days, members of different social forums have been treated to Jubilee sympathisers’ theatrics and propaganda to the effect that the Ford Kenya party leader in compliance with the Elections and Campaign and Regulations 2016 has shown intention of vying for Bungoma governor,” the statement read.

The Senator insisted that he has the right to contest for any political seat in the next general polls including Presidency.

“Let it be known that as much as I have the right to vie for any seat, at no point have I expressed my intentions to run for governor.”

According to the Star, sources close to the Senator indicate that Cord leader Raila Odinga has been holding talks with the Senator to go for the Bungoma’s top seat come 2017.

If this happens, then Wetangula will be locking horns with the incumbent governor Lusaka.
