Speaking on Saturday at a funeral service in Bungoma county, Wetangula said that he should be given the chance to vie for the presidency in the 2017 general elections on account that he enjoyed the most support among the three principals.

"I am the best candidate for Cord's presidency candidate in 2017. I urge my brothers Kalonzo and Raila to give me support to send Jubilee government home in the next elections," he said.

He added that Cord was firm and will never be shaken by people splitting propaganda that the opposition coalition will soon collapse.

This comes a day after ODM leader Raila Odinga refuted claims that Cord will seek another candidate outside the coalition to be the coalition's flag bearer in the 2017 polls.
