Kisii county Senator Chris Obure has challenged his rival in the gubernatorial race, South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya to a 20km race to prove he is a young man fit for office.
Obure was addressing mourners at Nyagiki village in Bobasi at a burial of veteran planner Bosire Ogero.
Hiss sentiments came afterNyamweya said Obure should retire from politics and give room for fresh blood.
“I respect Senator Obure as my political father. I have identified this lady (gubernatorial seat) and I want to marry her, as an African, I don’t expect my father to fight me over the same lady. Kindly retire from politics and let me marry this lady,” Nyamweya said.
When his turn to speak came, amidst a sea of cheers from the crowd, Obure declared that he could even beat Nyamweya in a 20km race from Nyangusi to Kisii town.
“Mheshimiwa Oyongo has said that I am old and should retire from politics, I want to ask you people of this area, do I look old?” posed Obure.
“If I cross to Bonyagatanyi village over there, will I not come back with a beautiful lady," he added.
“If Oyongo thinks he can defeat me, I challenge him to a race from Nyangusu to Kisii town, that is when he will realise that I understand this county more than him,” Obure said.
Kisii gubernatorial race is taking shape as three candidates have publicly declared their interest to unseat incumbent Governor James Ongwae.
