The ongoing construction of roads at Ngehu village in Kiambu Constituency has reduced unemployment among the youths who are employed to spread the murram soil on the road.

The initiative by area MP Jude Njomo has helped Jackson Mungai, a 26-year-old resident, put food on the table and prevent him from engaging in any malicious activity.

Mungai narrates that the search for employment has been a task for him and blames the county government for unemployment of the learned youths in the area.

“I have looked for employment with no success thanks to our area MP who has really helped me put food on my table,” he said.

The degree graduate says that Njomo has helped many youths by constructing the road not only in terms of passage but employment.

Samuel Kamau, 33, says that the employment has helped him and his family get at least three meals a day something which was hectic before.

He is however worried that the construction will end and he will be back to being unemployed.

“If this construction ends, I know things will be tough but I believe I will have saved enough to start a small business of my own,” Kamau said.

The youths are each paid Sh 400 per day in the construction will last up to July.
