Speaking at a press conference in Mombasa on Tuesday afternoon, Joho hit out at the government for threatening few individuals, further saying the government should first start by cleaning his house.

He further said that he is not aware whether or not the goverment is investigating him, and challenged it (government) to take action and stop sending threats.

Joho, who was visibly upset, noted that the war against drugs is far from over, and mere talk will not be a solution.

“As we sit here, there are probably 500 or even 1,000 addicts using bhang out there, but you call a press conference to warn and threaten people, you should start at that point,” said Joho.

“If they mean business, they first clean up their houses, and stop the side-shows of visiting Mombasa claiming to look for people involved in drugs,” he added.

According to the Governor, the current war on drugs is politically instigated, and there is a lot of political witch hunt.

“You cannot de-link this from politics, you heard what William Ruto said, that it doesn’t matter what political position you are holding, what does that mean,” he went on.

Joho’s remarks come a few days after Deputy President William Ruto visited Changamwe, where he maintained a strong stance on the war against drugs at the coast.

“Those drug barons doing business here in Mombasa, it doesn’t matter if they are political heavyweights, we will deal with them and they will leave this country,” said Ruto on Sunday.

The political showdown between Joho and the government has been in play for a while now, with Joho taking the government head-on on different issues.
