KISUMU Governor Jack Ranguma has criticised an ODM taskforce report that claimed he solicited a Sh100 million bribe over an abandoned waste management project.
The report by a taskforce chaired by Oduor Ong’wen accuses Ranguma of frustrating projects that do not bring direct personal benefit to him.
“Example is given on how the governor reportedly stopped a proposed solid waste management project because the investor, Madam R Enterprises, was not ready to part with Sh100 million to the governor as kickback,” the report states.
The project was meant to generate Power and Urea fertiliser from solid waste and all the Sh18 billion capital investment was to be provided by Madam R Enterprises.
“The governor is said to have felt left out when some MPs and his chief officers travelled to Germany and signed the agreement without his blessings.
The two officers who signed the contract, Kennedy Hongo and Omulo Okal, were sacked.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday, Ranguma accused the taskforce of lacking the capacity to carry out investigations and give an authentic report.
“This is a matter that I am prepared to take to court if need be, for maligning my name,” he said.
Ranguma said the allegations in the report are already in the public domain, and are already under investigation.
