Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong'o has dismissed media reports that he banned demonstrations in the county and transferred them to Nairobi.
Nyong'o banned demonstrations in his county this week, saying they will be happening in the capital city, on claims that criminals use the opportunity to maim, loot property and kill residents in the lakeside city.
However, Nyong'o has dismissed the reports saying he did not say the protests should be happening in Nairobi.
"Our attention has been drawn to a story circulating in the social media that Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o has banned demonstrations in Kisumu and transferred them to Nairobi. We wish to denounce the statement and clarify the true position," said the office of Prof Nyong'o.
"The governor stated clearly that henceforth all NASA sanctioned demonstrations shall be held in strict conformity to the law, anybody found engaging in any acts of lawlessness or criminality will be subjected to the full force of the law. We, therefore, appeal to our readers and supporters to disassociate from such falsehoods purportedly peddled by NASA coalition adversaries," added a short statement, Friday.
The clarification follows a warning by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, demanding that Nyong'o should apologise to Nairobi residents about the issue.
