NASA flag-bearer Raila Odinga has refuted claims that he referred to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a drunkard.

Speaking during the presidential debate forum on Monday, Raila said that some of the statements he makes are political jokes meant for the comical effect and are not to be interpreted as real life realities.

"Even if I said it, it must have been on a light touch. ... But that may not mean that he is a drunkard at all," he said.

"There are political jokes. If somebody says that the vehicle is being driven by a drunkard driver and a turn boy who is a thief, I don't think he was meaning Uhuru and Ruto unless themselves feel guilty. That is just said with a light touch," he said.

He was responding to a question that alleged the NASA brigade does not respect other leaders.
