Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero has dismissed claims making rounds on social media that he endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection in 2017.
Kidero who spoke during the official opening of the Nairobi International Trade Fair on Wednesday had said he was sure he would meet the president during next year's trade fair at the same venue.
Many however, interpreted this to mean that the ODM governor said the two would meet at the event as president and governor.
Kidero on Thursday however, clarified that he meant he would meet Uhuru at the event since the president in a re-known dairy farmer.
"Just to be clear, I was inviting H E Uhuru Kenyatta to next year's Nairobi International Trade Fair since he's a fairly successful dairy farmer," Kidero said on Twitter.
Opposition supporters went on social media to criticise the former Mumia Sugar Company managing director for belittling ODM leader Raila Odinga by endorsing Uhuru's 2017 presidency bid.
"Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero expresses confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta will defeat Raila Odinga early in the morning in the coming general election today (Wednesday) when He and the President presided over ASK show," Abdullahi Musa, an ardent supporter of Mr Odinga said on Facebook.
"Sometimes when we say the truth, kindly avoid insults and threats, I personally Abdullahi Musa mean well for my Party Leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga!"
Kidero together with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho led a group of opposition politicians in campaigning for Mr Odinga in Nairobi and Kisumu counties recently.
He is expected to defend his seat on an ODM party.
