Kiala, who spoke on Saturday during the launch of county-wide civic education program dubbed 'Ugatuzi na Kiala' at his rural backyard of Mukusu in Masinga constituency described Wavinya as 'a sister' with whom he can work with to uplift livelihoods of Machakos residents.

Although the occasion was dominated by politics, most of which revolved on alleged failure of governor Alfred Mutua to deliver on the promises he made to residents, Kiala himself steered clear of direct criticism of his boss, but maintained there was urgent need for Machakos residents to be educated on issues relating to devolution.

"We intend to push a legislation through the assembly that will make it compulsory for the executive to make public disclosure of all activities touching on use of public revenue," he said.

But numerous speakers who addressed hundreds of invited guests from all over the county declared Kiala the 'governor in waiting' and promised to support him in his campaigns ahead of the next year's general election.

MCAs Kyalo Kyuli (Wamunyu) Stephen Muthuka (Ndalani) Festus Ndeto (Kola) Francis Matheka (Kangundo North) and Cornelius Kitheka (Machakos Central) and Nathaniel Nganga (Ikombe) said Kiala was the best placed to lead Machakos as the next governor.

"We want the people of Machakos to rise to the occasion and appreciate the fact that this county is headed the wrong direction and send Mutua home when elections are called next year," said Nganga, who is also the County Assembly deputy speaker.

But political analysts have held that it would be difficult to unseat Dr Mutua unless both Kiala and Wavinya combine forces.
