Former Lagdera MP and Wiper Deputy Leader Farah Maalim has defended his decision to oppose Raila Odinga’s swearing-in scheduled for early next year.
Maalim says that his opinion and stand on Raila’s swearing has not change insisting that the planned oath will backfire on the former Prime Minister.
The former National Assembly deputy speaker maintains that NASA should abandon the swearing-in favor of an alternative strategy.
Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Thursday, Maalim said that Jubilee will use the swearing-in to finish off Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka.
He said that Uhuru’s government will not hesitate to arrest and charge Raila and Kalonzo if they go on with the planned oath.
“I still maintain that the swearing in is not backed by the constitution and urge my colleagues to opt for another strategy in the reforms agenda,” he said.
Maalim who has been under criticism for opposing the swearing in said that his stand is based on reference to the constitution an nothing else.
The former National assembly deputy speaker who unsuccessfully contested for the Garissa Township seat in the August 8 polls, said that he supporters NASA on other agenda.
“I am comfortable with the push for electoral reforms through other means but not oath taking,” he said. The former Lagdera MP clarified that his stand does not reflect the Wiper party whose leader has declared support for the planned oath.
On Thursday when he visited the late Kitui west MP Francis Nyenze’s family, Kalonzo said that they will be sworn in alongside Raila if Jubilee government if ignores the reforms agenda.
Kalonzo asked President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government to initiate electoral reforms dialogue or they take oath.
NASA has maintained that Raila’s swearing in will take place with plans for the coronation said to be complete.
The government has however maintained that the planned coronation is illegal and amounts to treason.
