Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi has refuted allegations that he is aiding sand harvesting in Mwitasyano location.
Speaking on Monday during a forum with residents in Chwaa town, the MP said it that is a plan by malicious people to tarnish his name while benefiting from the residents’ resources.
“There are malicious people stating that I am involved in sand selling which is not true. I do not own any Lorries and I am against the practice, “said Mwangangi
Present during the forum on Monday was also the area Member of County Assembly Felix Ngui who condemned the Mwala OCPD for aiding in sand harvesting in the area.
Ngui called upon the area County Commissioner to follow up on residents’ complaints and make sure they get justice.
“Residents have been complaining about police harassments when they try to demonstrate against sand harvesting. There are even those that have wounded while trying to bar people from harvesting sand,” said Ngui.
Sand harvesting is affecting the areas environs mainly during the rainy season when the water over flows causing floods due to weakened river banks and walls.
