Nairobi governor-elect Mike Sonko has said he will not spend the Sh25 million set aside for his inauguration as governor.
Instead, Sonko said the money should be channeled towards offsetting the one-month arrears the county owes its employees.
The money was allocated by the Assumption of Office Committee after Sonko won against ODM's Evans Kidero in the August 8 polls.
The Jubilee man has now ordered county Chief Finance Officer Luke Gatimu to ensure the workers are paid within the next 48 hours.
“We had a fruitful meeting with Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) and agreed workers must be paid before I assume office,” he said as quoted by the Star.
