Grieving his son, the father disclosed that Okombe was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of his estranged lover. At one time he called him and gave a fatherly advice.
"That was the second time the woman attacked my son. There was a time she tried to stab his left eye but missed and ended up stabbing his hand as he protected himself," the mourning father said.
He added: "After the first incident I had advised my son to stay away from the woman and avoid her like the plague. He obliged and he was even in the process of transferring to a Kakamega-based team and avoid Nakuru. I don't know what evil lured him back to the woman," Okombe's father said.
Mike Okombe died after he was stabbed by his estranged wife while at a party in Olive Inn estate in Nakuru.
They had a daughter together whose name Mumbi decided to change, according to the father.
"They have a daughter together who was brought home and even shaved. But after the separation, she changed her name from Okweya to some Kikuyu name," he said.
