Charles Mochama found himself on the receiving end when a group of social media users alleged that he had been detained in China following the alleged economic crimes among them, money laundering.

But in a quick rejoinder, Mochama who recently defected from ODM to Jubilee Alliance Party, dismissed the allegations as ‘propaganda’ and challenged youth to use social media positively to improve their lives.

“I have never been arrested in China and I am always there to transact business. It’s unfortunate that some people are spreading propaganda that I was locked up in prison. I have never been arrested or detained in my life,” he said in a WhatsApp post.

“Youths should use social media platforms constructively rather than being hired by those whom I compete with in politics. They should understand that we have a future to build and not engaging in personal attacks and vendetta,” he added.

He confirmed that Kisii police had arrested two youth for questioning on Wednesday before releasing them after reaching a consensus between him and his alleged perpetrators.

“The two youths who had published the defamatory information were arrested by Kisii police but I resorted to an out-of-court settlement because they are our sons and daughters. We want a peaceful Nyamira and I thank the youths for withdrawing the inciting information,” he added.
