Opposition leader Raila Odinga has maintained that if the National Super Alliance (Nasa) takes over power in the August general election, it will legalise traditional brews.
The former Prime Minister told off the DP, saying he had no apologies to make over his statement.
Raila who was responding to the deputy president William Ruto, said there was nothing wrong with lifting the ban on illicit brews.
Ruto on Sunday laughed off Odinga’s announcement saying it would undermine the war against drug abuse and alcoholism.
“Mr Ruto, Uganda has legalised chang’aa and they’ve set up a brewery called Uganda Waragi. There is nothing wrong with us processing it and calling it chang’aa. I have no apologies to make for my view. We as Nasa are sensitive to the local economy and the economic plight of the poor,” said Raila.
Speaking in Ugunja constituency, Siaya county, Monday, at a Nasa campaign rally, the ODM party leader noted his government would come up with proper liquor processing procedure before it is sold in the market.
