The government has warned that it will not condone any kind of property destruction by the opposition Cord in the name of peaceful demonstrations.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said appropriate action will be taken against those who will be involved in destroying public or private property, pretending to be holding peaceful demonstrations.
The President went further to urge protestors to use their brains wisely and to stop provoking the police.
“We are not going to allow demonstrations that are geared mainly towards the destruction of property,” said the President when he spoke in Tala where he launched development projects, in Machakos county earlier on Friday.
President Kenyatta on the dialogue debate told the chiefs of the opposition not to think of him sitting down with them to discuss issues concerning the IEBC stalemate.
“I have no business sitting down with you. I was elected as president to guide and champion the development of Kenya. These issues are the roles of Members of Parliament in the national assembly,” the President said.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on his part reiterated the stand of Ukambani people by saying the people of Ukambani had no chance for the protests because they love peace and are only interested in the fight to improve their social and economic statuses.
The President was addressing the rally after he finished launching the tarmacking of the Tala-Oldonyo Sabuk-Kilimambogo Road at the cost of more than Sh1 billion.
