President Uhuru Kenyatta has defended cancellation of his trip to Kitutu Masaba constituency saying it was propelled by intelligence on animosity among local leadership.
Uhuru cancelled his trip to Nyangori water project and Keroka Township respectively at the eleventh hour during his one-day visit to the region recently.
Speaking in an exclusive pre-recorded interview on Royal Media’s Egesa FM on Monday night, the Head of State regretted the incident and promised to revisit the region again.
“It’s true that I had to cancel the trip to Kitutu Masaba because of security concerns. I could not accept to go and watch my fellow leaders showing political differences in a development oriented tour yet we are not in the campaigns period,” he said.
“That is the normal way we operate but I will revisit the region and execute what I had planned to do in those places.," added Uhuru.
"They are still in Kenya but sometimes it’s important to respect directives from security agents,” he said in a unique interview.
He, however, denied any differences with outspoken Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire who was to be his host in the region.
“Bosire is a good friend and our relationship is intact. I love every leader and it’s my wish that we always work together. Even if we disagree on some issues," said Uhuru.
"It doesn’t mean that I can’t visit his constituency,” he said when asked about his relationship with Mr Bosire who had his guards withdrawn late April after defying the President’s order to stand in honor of soldiers who had died in Somalia earlier this year.
Intelligence reports indicated that supporters allied to Mr Bosire and his predecessor Walter Nyambati had planned to take each other head-on in front of the President.
