Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli has declared that he has no intention of joining politics.
This comes amidst plans by a section of Luhya leaders endorsing him as the community’s spokesman.
Speaking during a fundraiser in aid of St Peter’s secondary school in Kisumu County on Sunday, Atwoli said all the communities across the country are united and therefore there was no need to convene a meeting to bring people together.
He said the move by a section of the Luhya politicians to set up a meeting at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County earlier in the month was not of significance given the community is united.
“These are political gimmicks that we should not tolerate to cause tension in the country,” said Atwoli.
He further noted that it was not his responsibility to bring leaders with political difference together.
However, should the politicians agree on their flag-bearer come 2017 General Elections, he will back him.
Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo earlier dismissed the claims of endorsing Atwoli as spokesman saying this was a plot by United Democratic Front party leader Musalia Mudavadi to gain political mileage in the community.
Atwoli however, said he would come up with a master plan that seeks to promote good leadership in the Western Region.
Recently, a section of Luhya leaders led by Lugari MP Ayub Savula said legislators had been invited to a meeting at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega later this month to give proposals that would enable them to produce a presidential candidate for the next elections.
Following this meeting, Cotu secretary-general’s first assignment will be to chair a meeting to be attended by politicians from the region.
