Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has dismissed reports that he is behind a motion to ouster county assembly Speaker Joel Maina Kairu.
Kairu is facing an impeachment motion filed by Biashara Ward MCA Peter Wanyaguthie.
Kinyanjui, who was backing Nelson Gaichuhie for the position of Speaker against Kairu, said it is not in his interest if the embattled Speaker is sent packing.
“Logically, even if I did not want Mr Kairu to be the Speaker which in any case is not true, this is the wrong time and I am not party to it. Technically, I cannot support such an ill-timed move,” Kinyanjui said.
The county boss said the timing for the Speaker’s oust is bad.“We are in the budget making process and I cannot initiate any underhand deal to push for the removal of the Speaker. I am a development conscious governor,” he added.
The MCAs are accusing Kairu of funds misuse and abuse of office.
