Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli has downplayed media reports saying he has asked Kenyans not to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 polls.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday, Atwoli distanced himself from a report that appeared on social media where it claims he challenged Kenyans not to back Uhuru's re-election on grounds that the Ppresident has failed to tackle corruption and embezzlement of public funds in various government departments.
“I want to inform Kenyans that this is propaganda, and whoever has an issue with the President should tackle him directly since Francis Atwoli does not speak through proxies or agents,” the statement read in part.
“Any such malicious statements attributed to me are fallacious, and their propagators hiding behind parody accounts or otherwise should know better,” he added. Atwoli insisted that he had immense respect for the presidency and that he had no problem with President Uhuru Kenyatta's style of leadership.
