Nakuru Assembly speaker Susan Kihika has denied allegations made against her by an MCA that she has been blocking debate on the county's supplementary budget, which should have been passed by now.
Speaking at her office on Thursday evening, Kihika said that the allegations that were made by London MCA Francis Njoroge were baseless and unfounded, and termed them as political rhetoric.
Kihika said that there was no way the supplementary budget would have been debated while members are on recess.
She said that the budget will be debated once members return from recess, and asked Njoroge to stop playing cheap politics.
“The house is currently on recess and I wonder why and how an MCA who understands the operations of the house would accuse the speaker of blocking debate of anything at a time when members are not in the house,” said Kihika.
“The supplementary budget will be debated once we resume sittings and I don’t see any urgency of recalling the house back because the recess is almost over,” added Kihika.
On Thursday, Njoroge had called a press conference, where he accused Kihika and house majority leader Waithuke Njane of playing politics with the supplementary budget by refusing to recall members to debate and pass the supplementary budget.
