Days after President Uhuru Kenyatta defended the Salaries and Remuneration Commission(SRC) over the MPs pay cut while addressing Catholic schools heads, the Head of State has stated that he still stands by his stand as the 12th Parliament opens for business.

“It is shameful that we are barely a week away from polls and they do not realise how they have made Kenyans angry with such remarks even before they are sworn in," said Uhuru, last week.

“Everybody knew their salaries before they sought election and these leaders need to know that anyone who is called to serve should have a system that recognises we are called to serve people not hurt them,” he added.A source privy to the meeting between Uhuru, Ruto and Jubilee politicians at the State House on Wednesday has revealed that the Head of State has no plans to change his mind on the pay cut discourse.

According to the source, both Uhuru and Ruto urged the MPs to adhere to the salary guidelines given by the SRC.

MPs from across the political divide had indicated they will push for salaries that MPs were paid in the 11th Parliament. SRC gazetted the pay cuts in July.
