Aspirant Walter Nyambati had claimed recently that the Governor had recruited youths reportedly to ‘guard’ him during the funeral and supposedly attack residents who may be tempted to boo him given his deteriorating relationship with members of the public.

But Onchana on Wednesday said the county government had no plans to ferry youths to the home of the deceased and urged leaders to respect the dead.

“The allegations that Governor is planning to ferry youths to Mr. Matoke are malicious and outrageous which should be ignored by members of the public. We want peaceful burial for our brother and whoever will attend should be peaceful,” he said.

“As a people, let us respect the dead and accord them utmost affection. The Governor is disturbed by Matoke’s death and we are busy planning to give him a decent burial. We are however reliably informed that it’s our opponents who are planning disruption of the funeral,” he added.

He said the county government was in touch with the police to ensure rowdy mourners are handled during the burial.

“We know some people are planning to hire goons to humiliate the Governor. But as a government, we are not ready to respond. However, we expect more police officers during the burial,” he added.

Disruption of funeral is synonymous in the region and recently, North Mugirango MP Charles Geni and his Borabu counterpart Ben Momanyi were accused of ferrying goons to EX- North Mugirango MP Geoffrey Masanya.
