The statement claimed that the Governor had already forwarded Mbugua's name to the Speaker of County Assembly Beatrice Elachi for approval.

The EALA MP is claimed to have tendered his resignation letter to the regional assembly in readiness to take up his new role as the deputy governor.

"I have been nominated for the position of Deputy Governor in my home county Nairobi. This is, therefore, to submit my resignation as a member of your assembly pursuant to Article 51 (3) (a) of the Treaty for the Establishment of East Africa Community," the letter claiming to be from Mbugua read.

Taking to one of  his social media accounts, Sonko stated:

"I wish to inform the public that attached letter is fake. I have not nominated my deputy yet. I'm still consulting the party leadership over the same."

Earlier last week, Governor Sonko had released a shortlist of people with the help of the Nairobians to whom he would consider for the Deputy Governor position after Polycarp Igathe resigned .

Among the notable in line to take up the position includes;President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother Muhoho Jomo Kenyatta, Royal media TV presenter Anne Kiguta , Self Declared NRM General Miguna Miguna, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and Current CAS Ministry of Gender and Youth Rachel Shebesh .
