Speaking in a televised interview on KTN on Tuesday, Sonko unsavoury said he would also turn Uhuru Park into a matatu terminus if elected Nairobi governor in the forthcoming election.

For the environmentalists, this is an insult to selfless sacrifice by especially the Late Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai who fought tooth and nail to save the park.

Sonko said the park will be turned into a drop-off zone for matatus. This is despite the fact that the park is a place of solace for many Nairobians who take time off to have a feel of nature in the city centre.

Sonko said turning the Park into a bus terminus would help decongest the Central Business District (CBD).

In his grand plan, matatus from Eastlands will not be allowed to access the city centre but will instead drop-off passengers at Uhuru Park and return.

In the 80s and early 90s, Uhuru Park was saved from grabbers including a proposal by former President Daniel Moi’s government to have it developed.

Professor Maathai resisted the proposal defeating the regime of President Moi.

On the documentary, Sonko claimed he has a “pick-up full of documents” that back up his corruption claims against Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

According to Nairobi News, Sonko made the declaration after getting visibly frustrated at the “lack of time” to highlight the alleged corrupt activities of Governor Kidero.

“I’m frustrated that we don’t always have time to highlight the corruption cartels in the county. Like now I have a pick-up full of documents confirming what I’m telling you. I will do a documentary showing all this, which I will distribute to you guys (media) to tell Kenyans,” said Sonko.

Sonko intends to unseat Governor Kidero in the 2017 elections. He has severally accused Kidero of theft of public property and even murder.
